Few films have been as influential, both in content and pure artistry, as The Magnificent Seven and is one of the best known and loved Westerns of all time.

The impact that I felt as an 8-year old after first seeing this marvelous tale on the big screen has never lessened throughout the many years that have followed. Good “can” triumph over evil, even though the good may at first appear to take ominous forms, as in this wonderfully told and superbly acted film. The sensitivity to the farmer’s plight and the selflessness displayed as the seven defend the farmers and their poor village are an inspiration to all those who are not able or capable of defending themselves against evil.

The heroes of The Magnificent Seven are killers, as is the film’s villain. However, it is “how’s” and the “why’s” of their actions where the distinction is drawn. Character development, integrity and independence were the aspects of the film that has made its everlasting appeal on me, especially growing up under the communist regime. It is no coincidence that in the wide open spaces of the West I have finally found “my” freedom and with the help of my camera I am able to express and to convey that vast freedom.
